In 2006, China passed the Renewable Energy Law. In 2007, investiment in renweable energy peojects totaled $12 billions. China is a large market for using renewable energy and bio-based products. By 2020, China aims to utilize 15% of its total energy consumption as renewable enrgy. Bio-based products will also open business opportunities for US companies leading the technological innovation. Opportunities also exist in the production, processing, and trade of the renewable resources as anagricultural commodity.

Animal Health and Food Safety

The growing middle class population in China leads to increasing demands for higher living standards, especially in the area of food safety. The newly released China Food Safety Law, which became effective on June 1, 2009 opened doors for the US food industry manufacturing quality food products and services. A well protected food chain from farm to table in China will provide business opportunities for US farm animal producers. Safe food industry will require services inclusing, but not limited to animal disease surveillance and diagnosis, food-born disease monitoring, inspection and control, and risk management,

Biomedical

Each year, the Chinese centeral government increased its investments supporting biomedical industry. For example, in 2008 the increase was more than $70 millions. Biomedical engineering, medical device, drug discovery, and gene therapy attract big capitals from both government and private companies, which leads to the increasing demands for biomedical R&D supplies (reagents, kits, and vaccines) and technological services. Other biomedical services like CRO, clinical trial, and patent law have immense market potentials in China.

netween 2007 and 2008, there were 81,127 students from China studying in the United States, roughly a 30 percent increase in Chinese students to the United States compared to two years ago. U.S. colleges and universities remain the preferred overseas destination for Chinese students. Joint educati0nal programs, vocational training, and short-term certificate programs for company employees are particularly sought after. US educational institutions will also enjoy the increasing demands in workshop and trainiing in specialized areas, and educational consulting services in China.
